Indian Wedding Catering Trends by Ranjan Dey of New Delhi Restaurant, San Francisco

From the moment guests stepped on to the red carpet, across the big reveal and into the magical world of the Vintage Bollywood Glam Party, this was destined to be an unforgettable night. With over 130 guests wearing their diverse and splendid Indian fashions, this exquisitely orchestrated show was yet another sold-out event from New Delhi Restaurant in San Francisco's Union Square. The evening began with guests gathering in the bar area of this large capacity restaurant, while a burgundy – gold curtain separated them from the surprise of the main venue. At the moment of the "Big Reveal," the massive red curtains parted, allowing guests to witness the ornately decorated main hall of New Delhi Restaurant, specially adorned for this theme night.

After the guests were seated the evening started with Amita Bal's special bridal couture fashion show, where she demonstrated her creations with the help of four runway models. As always, the complimentary henna artist Neeta Sharma was a popular attraction. Guests got their temporary henna tattoos and even bangles for some. With a theme of Indian diversity in a world that's rapidly become a global village, this event showcased 2014 Indian Wedding Trends, including the splendor of peacock blue and deep garnet ruby red.

Guests enjoyed specially crafted appetizers and drinks, including "Bollywood Blues," made from Antiquity Whisky imported from India, "Maharaja Punch," crafted from Indian Old Monk Rum, and a special non-alcoholic Green Mango Lemonade Guests were also treated to the emerging trend of "Nouvelle Thali-style Presentation" which allows for a seated dinner for a large number of guests, while preserving the texture, look and taste in this presentation format.

Sonic Village provided the well rehearsed entertainment, including Baraat Mob, sound, music, and dancers. After a quick Bollywood dance lesson, the entertainers had everyone dancing on the floor. Hotel industry catering directors and managers from all across the Bay Area mingled with soon-to-be brides, grooms, parents, and took note of the themes and trends that will make 2014 weddings distinctive and memorable. As always with Compassionate Chefs Cafe event, a percentage of the proceeds were intended for the benefit of the children of the Gandhi Ashram in India, and for the children of the Tenderloin in San Francisco.
